Today we know the story of the famous necklace of Anne Boleyn, also called the distinctive “B” collar. It is a jewel that was characterized as very different from those that carried the royal women in the sixteenth century. It was characterized as a chain made from white pearls, a pendant in the shape of “B” which hung three other white drop-shaped pearls. We will know more about the mystery of this jewel and the controversial life of the unhappy Queen.

Anne Boleyn was one of the most influential UK queens. It is said that this woman was dark with very bright long hair and dark brown eyes that gave the impression of being black, thus she had deep eyes and wide mouth. Although she did not have the characteristics of a normal queen of the time with blue eyes and blond hair; many considered her truly beautiful. It was a very arrogant and extravagant woman, with qualities that made her lose the support of the most influential court.

Her reign was short-lived, as was tragically decapitated through the use of the guillotine on the orders of her husband King Henry VIII; on the charges of adultery, treason and witchcraft. Ana had two brothers: Mary and George, with whom he maintained a good relationship, also she had a daughter named Elizabeth Tudor (the daughter of Henry VIII).

Previously, the jewels of the XVI century era were considered essential to define the social status even more than clothing. Many had the idea that the origin of the “B” necklace pendant of the English noblewoman, was because of the love letters the King wrote to her; referring to the Queen with the initials “AB”. On the other hand, it was said that this letter dangling from her string of pearls, represented the symbol of her prestigious family and the three white oval pearls hanging on this, symbolized the three Boleyn brothers. Others speculated that Ana adorned her long neck with this gem to hide or conceal a stain that had from birth.

Although is a mystery the whereabouts of the original necklace of Ana Boleyn, some may believe that the garment was inherited by his daughter Elizabeth I which is included in many prestigious pearls necklaces that formed part of the crown of Queen Elizabeth II. In another sense, it is said that the significant necklace of the Queen along with other jewelry were delivered or appropriate by King Henry VIII, after the execution of Anne, in order to be given as gifts for Jane Seymour, who was his third wife. Even after the tragic death of the unhappy Ana, there is still speculation on the whereabouts of her most characteristic gem and the true meaning of “B” letter symbol.
