Within the context of universal energy, human beings have specific points in our bodies where that energy is manifested by acting directly on our lives, from the physical and organic point of view to our most basic attitudes and behaviours. These points are the chakras, which act as energy centres of the body, through where the force and essence of life itself flows; and in which each organ, tissue and system of our organism is connected with that vital energy, influencing the physical, mental and emotional aspects.

Basically speaking there are seven chakras, although some specialists of the subject maintain that more exist, but in this article we will be based on the seven main ones. Each of the seven chakras or vortices of energy acts on a specific area of the body and are usually activated or deactivated separately, but ideally, they are all as balanced as possible.

If our seven chakras are balanced, the individual will have a feeling of general well-being, their unfoldment will be fluid and they will enjoy physical, mental and emotional health, while connected with the universe and the universal energy of love. But, if one or several chakras are blocked, all the others start to malfunction, and we lose our inner balance, hence it is very important to know what they are associated with, the symptoms that occur when they are unbalanced and what should be done in those cases. For this reason, we summarize this information below:

The first chakra counting from the lower part of the body is the so-called root chakra or also known as “Muladhara”, which is associated with the material, it is what binds us to the earth, linking us with the places where we feel safe. This chakra is located at the base of the spine or coccyx and its associated colour is red.

The situations in which the root chakra is probably blocked are related to the generation of feelings of guilt, fear and uprooting, when the person has to face conflicts, problems and / or daily situations that require objectivity, decision making and self-confidence, so that when the chakra is blocked these qualities that an individual must have get weakened.

On the other hand, if the root chakra is blocked, the person loses the ability to concentrate in order to perform the tasks of their daily routine, at work, at home or in the social environment where they are involved.
To unlock this chakra, it is convenient to perform physical exercises such as walking, jogging, aerobic routines, dancing, or walking barefoot; while emotional exercises should be based on the performance of activities to strengthen self-confidence, such as meditations, spiritual retreats, and the practice of the “Lam” mantra.

Likewise, the practice of aromatherapy with patchouli is very favourable, since this essential oil is associated with the earth, it helps to recover the connection with this element, recovering strength and vitality.

The second is the sacral chakra or svadhisthana, associated with the orange colour, it is located in the lower abdomen, below the navel, and is linked to free and full sexuality, without feelings of guilt or remorse. In this way, when this chakra is blocked, there is a limitation of the free expression of the personality, arising the fears that limit the enjoyment of sexual relations, generating deficiencies with the healthy sexual impulse.

To unlock it, certain exercises must be performed through which there will be movement and / or rotation of the hips, for example dances such as merengue, salsa, belly dance, etc., as well as swimming, saunas, thermal pools and Jacuzzis are recommended.

The mantra for this chakra is “Vam”. If you prefer aromatherapy, you can resort to pink pepper, which stimulates the erotic nature, and favours the elimination of personal and social prejudices.

The third chakra is the solar plexus (yellow) located in the centre of the body, between the intestines and the heart, linked to the mental body. When blocked, certain diseases could appear in the digestive system like acidity, stomach pain, ulcers and chronic fatigue, among other conditions.

From the emotional point of view, people tend to experience inferiority complexes, dissatisfaction, insecurity and lack of self-confidence; It becomes difficult to make decisions and act on them and there is a lack of control of emotions.

The best way to unlock the third chakra is by running or walking fast, which is very favourable to release stress. Also, a pillow ca be used to hit some surfaces (bed, furniture, sofas, etc.), in order to release negative energies and drain emotions. Habits must be changed as well as restoring positive routines on a daily basis, repeating the mantra “Ram” and resort to aromatherapy, through the use of black pepper, which helps overcome past conflicts that limit the present.

The fourth chakra is associated with the heart and the green colour, and is known as the Heart Chakra or Anahata. It is located in the centre of the chest and represents the feelings of love towards others. When it is blocked, there are problems to express feelings and to accept others, inability to relate in a healthy way with others and the environment; as well as heart or coronary diseases.

For the unblocking of this chakra, breathing exercises are recommended, starting with a nasal breathing that must begin through the abdomen, chest and clavicles; exhaling slowly in the same order to completely expel the air. It is also convenient to carry out some social or humanitarian labour, and if there is lack of resources, at least interacting effectively with other people should be tried.

It is convenient to make frequent repetitions of the mantra “Iam”, which is associated with this chakra, as well as applying pine essential oil in the area to favour the restoration of the heart when emotions are uncontrolled.

The throat chakra or Visuddha, located in the area of the throat and associated with the blue colour, is the fifth chakra and is related to the role that each individual must fulfil in society, being associated with the ability to meet objectives and goals set. When blocked, throat conditions and voice complications usually occur; as well as difficulties in communicating with others, assuming responsibilities and self-esteem problems.

To unlock this chakra, it is advisable to perform vocal and singing exercises, as well as venting while screaming as much as possible in a solitary place. In addition, performing movements and turning the neck in all possible directions is highly recommended to unlock this chakra.

It is also recommended to repeatedly and systematically pronounce the mantras “Ham” and “Om” and use lavender essential oil, which harmonizes and balances the energies, improving interaction and communication with others.

The Third Eye or Ajna chakra is the sixth, and is located on the forehead, in the frown area, connected with thoughts, which are basic to visualize and understand realities as well as generate ideas. The colour associated with this chakra is indigo blue, and is directly related to the pineal gland, which is attributed to the connection with the spiritual world and divine energy.

When this chakra is blocked, there could be a lot of mental confusion, headaches, vision problems and inability to visualize goals and dreams. To unlock this chakra, it is recommended to massage with the tips of the fingers, the eyes and eyebrows, keeping the eyelids closed, as well as circularly massage the temples.

On the other hand, it is advisable to do guided meditations, trying to visualize geometric figures, repeating the “Ksham” mantra. In with aromatherapy it is recommended to use lemon essential oil, because it favours the connection of the mental body with intuition, facilitating the organization of thoughts and information.

The seventh chakra located at the crown of the head, is the so-called crown chakra or sahasrara, which is associated with the violet colour, connecting us directly with the spiritual plane and knowledge. If a person has this chakra blocked, their ego and disposition to dominate everything around them increases, becoming egocentric, arrogant, dependent and losing autonomy. In addition, difficulties to believe can appear, developing rigidity in belief systems and narrow-mindedness.

Is recommended to practice yoga in order to unlock this chakra, since it is the physical activity in which a greater connection with transcendence and spirituality can be achieved. It is also advisable to perform any kind of meditation and prayer, as well as the repetitions of the “Om” mantra through deep breathing and relaxation, leaving the mind in blank for about half an hour.

On the other hand, the seventh chakra is activated especially with lime oil, which is beneficial to clarify the mind and improve the perception of the truth.

Finally, we will present a simple exercise to activate and balance the seven chakras, considering the importance of them being balanced and unblocked, so that the energy flows and our bodies can be physically, mentally and emotionally healthy.
