Islands are tourist destinations par excellence for holidays, if you want to spend a different vacation, out of daily stress or you just want to get out of the routine, the islands of the Mediterranean are your best choice. These islands offer you a great variety of beaches, landscapes, gastronomy, sunny villages, water sports and many other activities.

Let’s start by getting to know one of the Cycladic Islands of Greece, the tiny island of Sifnos. The whitewashed villages and picturesque churches at the bottom of the stunning blue waters of the Aegean Sea are the essence of Greek charm. Something that makes it a perfect place to appreciate the slow pace of Mediterranean life.

Like Sifnos, the island of Milos located in Greece, is part of the chain of Cyclades islands and owes its impressive rock formations to its volcanic origins. In addition, it is home to towering cliffs that harbor hidden coves with calm sapphire waters. One of the most spectacular is the Sarakiniko Beach, formed by a radiant and smooth white rock that contrasts with the emerald waters.

In Italy there is a small island and natural reserve at the same time, called Caprera, in the archipelago of La Maddalena, off the coast of Sardinia.

Apart from historical treasures such as the Roman ships and the house of Giuseppe Garibaldi (one of the fathers of Italian independence), Caprera has coves such as the impressive Cala Coticcio, considered one of the most beautiful in the Mediterranean.

Another unique island that belongs to the Mediterranean is Levanzo. Located in Italy, it is a small paradisiac island in the Aegean islands. It is the only town on the island that offers visitors a charming setting of sparkling white houses and authentic restaurants, while the rest of the island attracts travelers with spectacular hiking trails, cliffs and turquoise blue waters.

The next recommended island is Comino. Located in Malta, it is not a large island, measuring just under 1.5 square miles. But, without a doubt, it is an ideal place for those who want to relax, dive or scuba dive. Its greatest attraction is the Blue Lagoon, an area of unique topography that has created a protected natural pool, with submerged caves and radiant blue waters.

Within the Mediterranean we can find a group of islands called Columbretes. It is a group of uninhabited volcanic islands off the coast of the Valencian region of Spain. Due to its protected status, only a limited number of approved visitors are allowed each day, but the trip is worthwhile. Well, the island is a special breeding ground for dozens of species of birds and the coast is full of marine life, which makes it one of the most important diving destinations in Spain.

In Spain there is also an island which is named Formentera. It stands out for its natural beauty and intact and relaxed island culture. Locally known for its Caribbean beaches, Formentera is perfect for those seeking a bit of peace and quietness or a break from the hectic working life.
