Monday, January 4th 2016. As the years go by we’ve found ourselves more involved in the Korean entertainment scene, more and more girls are enjoying the Doramas, or even dancing to K-Pop. Let’s get to know what they offer us: K-Pop means “Korean Pop”, Korean music that consists of music bands with lots of girls and boys who dance, sing, have wacky appearances and intense hair colors.

The boys: This music can sometimes be similar to what we know as ‘boybands’, organized like the “Backstreet Boys”; charismatic like “N’Sync” yet intense like “Five” and all the important bands from early 2000. Let’s enjoy their “Bigbang” and their “Fantastic Baby”.

The girls: Are usually similar to the “Spice Girls”, “Destiny’s Child” or “Pussycat Dolls”. They’re very dedicated dancers with “preppy” or Hip Hop looks. The most popular are the “Girls Generation”, where Yoona stands out as the worldly acclaimed Korean princess; the “2EN1”, and the sensation “Miss A”. Let’s enjoy the owners of the Korean scene on Youtube:

Other groups are: SS501, EXO and the already quite popular “Super Junior”. The songs are usually in their language originally, but with certain phrases in English as it is a contagious trend among the different sectors.

The Doramas are the most popular in the international scale. There are very few people who haven’t enjoyed a Korean drama, short soap operas in a very series-like style with between 16 to 40 episodes of weekly airing. This type of shows presents the basic plot in which an innocent, but brave girl meets a good but rebellious boy; who changes her life forever. Kisses and physical contact are something the viewers often appreciate, since it’s not a common sight due to cultural issues.

The dramas are very short, so there is a larger number of them than original series in the case of our TV. Up next some of the most original: “Coffee Prince, “Love Rain”, “You Are Beautiful” and “The Heirs”. All the names have been translated to English for easier Western understanding, even though we still feel curious about Korean as a language.

“Boys Over Flowers” from 2009, was the most important production of our times, it’s still among the first spots of the most watched dramas; where Lee Min Ho shines as South Korea’s most profitable actor. It’s a juvenile story with a charismatic cast and 20 intense episodes; inspired in a “Manga” series, or Japanese graphic novel.
