Thursday, January 14, 2015. London’s BBC’s website was choked by the terrible news announcing a new sex scandal involving the Vatican. On this occasion, specifically one Pope Benedict XVI’s brother, who for years directed the children’s choir of the city of Regensburg, located in Bavaria, Germany.
Georg Ratzinger, the Pope’s brother; is being accused by the German lawyer Ulrich Ueber, of complicity in terrible crimes, as alleged ill-treatment and all kinds of abuse, including sexual abuse against children of the choir members he led for 30 years.
The lawyer, showed documents from a total of 231 cases, based on the testimony and evidence from victims and their families. Currently, leading the choir called “Regensburger Domsplatzen” is the other director who requested this thorough investigation.
The documents show evidence that say Ratzinger is guilty of being involved as a witness and accomplice of these terrible accusations, of events that occurred within the coral and the attached school, from 1953 until 1992. To the surprise and horror of its witnesses, crimes show that children were subjected to beatings, getting banged up, and food deprivation.
Likewise, he added that of the 231 cases reported, at least 40 are related to lewd acts, sadism and even violations. Anything linked to shameful sexual situations, which should get, according to the lawyers, the full weight of the law on its culprits.
Faced with complaints, sectors have attacked Pope Benedict XVI on the ground that he has been taking an overly light position on the gravity of these cases revealed over and over again; expressing solidarity with the bishops, but forgetting, according to many, the real victims of sexual abuse by church members.
Representatives of a group of associations of survivors of these victims demand that the Vatican takes, once and for all, a firm stand and punishes the representatives of the church; who have been found guilty of committing these terrible crimes, the majority of them sexual and against minors.
They even assured that the punishment must be not only for the perpetrators; but also to hundreds of bishops’ accomplices of these crimes for not reporting or punishing these crimes as required by law. Presumably, this would be Ratzinger’s case, the Pope’s brother; who never accused the crimes they committed.
Moreover, according to the investigations; Johan Meier, School principal from the year 1953 and 1992, was charged with locking himself in his room with eight and nine years’ children, giving them wine, masturbating and hitting them if they didn’t consent his demands. So far, the Vatican has created a court that hears cases of pedophilia. The victims await justice.
