Having beautiful hands and nails is many women’s dream, and a manicure is the perfect way to achieve it. However, women usually have to go to beauty centers to get it, and unfortunately, many don’t have time to do this, and their hands and the ones to suffer the consequence. But we have the solution for you: DIY at-home manicure techniques that will look like you went to the salon!

Before you start, you must make sure you have all the necessary elements for your manicure. They don’t have to be expensive stuff, you might even have them at home. You will need a nail polish remover, a nail file, cotton balls, orange wood sticks, a moisturizing lotion for the hands and your favorite nail polish.

The first step to start your manicure is to remove old nail polish from your nails. Just saturate your cotton ball with nail polish remover and rub it over your nails to remove the polish. If you have no nail polish on your nails, you can still do this, because this step will also remove any residue from your nails.

Then, file and smooth your nails. Smooth the edges of your nails with a nail file. File your nails into a round, square or rounded-square shape. Run over each nail with a slightly abrasive buffer to even out the surface of your nails. Just make sure you file your nails in one direction only, to prevent them from cracking or breaking easily.

After filing your nails, you must clean and moisturize them. To feel like you’re in a salon, you can soak your hands in a small container with warm water and some shampoo or hand soap for 5 minutes. Then rinse them and push back the cuticle with the orange wood stick, without making too much pressure to avoid hurting yourself.

Then, apply some moisturizing lotion in your cuticles and hands, preferably some that contains vitamin E, and massage them until they absorb the lotion. If your nails look greasy after applying the moisturizing lotion, you must remove it with a cotton ball and a small amount of nail polish remover; otherwise the nail polish will not last on your nails.

To finish, apply your nail polish. Use your imagination, choose a color and design you like. You should apply a base boat to each nail and wait for it to dry. That will make your polish last longer. That way, you will have a perfect manicure without leaving the comfort of your home, and your nails will look pretty.

We have some extra tips for you:

  • Do not use trimmers or scissors to shape your nails. You’d better use a nail file to prevent them from cracking. Trimers and scissors cause too much pressure on the nails, and they could easily break.
  • Apply the nail polish around your nails, to prevent it from peeling off.
  • Apply fine layers of nail polish and wait until each is completely dry to apply another layer.
  • Do not apply many thick layers of nail polish, because that will not last long on your nails.
  • Use a top coat to seal the nail polish.
