Often, just because we are women, we are, to a greater extent, potential victims of attacks, which could be criminal violence, domestic violence, a stalker and even rapists. Unfortunately, despite the condition of legal equality and legal protection we enjoy in many countries, more women are attacked every day.

For this reason, we must always stay alert and ready to defend ourselves, which can be done through self-defense techniques, which is the art of defeating the opponent regardless of his physical strength; or with tools designed to guarantee our safety and protection.

Some say that in a world of equals, women should not be afraid or worried about an attack. However, since we cannot ignore the sad reality that afflicts us regarding women violence, femicide, rape and robbery, it is better to be prepared for the worst and know how to react in the face of any of these terrible situations.

  • Faced with a situation of imminent danger in the face of an attack, the first thing we must do is to remain calm and think about the most appropriate form of defense for that moment. Although you have to act with “calm” you must have a quick, agile and effective response to escape the situation.
  • In the case of being attacked by someone who takes you by the hand and is in front of you, the best technique to defend yourself is by bending the attacker’s fingers, this will cause great pain, and he will immediately release you, which gives you time to run.
  • When the attacker tries to choke you while facing you, you should jab your index fingers straight into his eyes. Other effective techniques against a frontal attack are: kicking his testicles hard or pulling his hair. With these techniques the attacker is forced to retreat, which will allow time to run and escape.

  • If the attacker is behind you, the best defense techniques will be to bite the attacker wherever you can reach, which is usually the arm; hit him with the elbow on the stomach, trying to leave him breathless, or stomp his feet with all your strength. He will feel a lot of pain, this will release you and you will be able to run away from the danger zone.
  • Other options in the case of a frontal attack are that when the attacker approaches, you should open your hands and hit his ears with the palms of your hands, as if you were applauding. Remember that the ear controls the balance and after such a strong attack, he will be incapacitated. And finally, you can hit the aggressor on the throat, although this technique will only immobilize him for a very short time.

In self-defense there are not only techniques, but also instruments such as pepper spray and the “paralyzer” which will always be relevant to have at hand, and above all, they are easily accessible to defend ourselves in any situation. It is never too bad to use these tips, so we can feel safe to walk by ourselves at any time.
