Historically, from the Maya, jade is known as a miraculous stone, which gives power and wisdom to all who keep it as the most sacred amulet. For several years they had found no news about the mineral; however, to the surprise of many, after 30 years, archaeologists have made a wonderful discovery, a jade pendant, perhaps the most important piece found in Belize, along with other archaeological objects of equal wealth.

The discovery was made at Nim Li Punit, a Mayan site located at south of Belize. In the area they also found other objects containing stone and a few graves. Excavators, equally, could find vessels from Teotihuacan in good condition.

Along with these great discoveries there were also eight pieces made by jade next to the pendant carved. The necklace was found in one of these tombs, and is only in this small Central American country where they have appeared larger pieces of this mineral, so much so that it is known as the national treasure in Belize.

According to scholars, this pendant was used in sacrifice ceremonies where the governor was going bleeding; still, these are assumptions of archaeologists. However, the piece also seems to be carved near the site where graves were found, suggesting that the deceased was the owner of this incredible necklace.

The pendant has a kind of carved scriptures, which apparently tells the story of gem’s carrier. Each of these pieces are believed by some to be over 400 years old. The temple was found near a large trade which suffered much damage, so still unknown about this site found in August 2014.

Belize is an important cultural center with profuse Mayan presence; despite the few square kilometers and its tiny location on the map, the country has much to offer. It is no secret that the Maya have a secret that has not yet been revealed on earth, and perhaps, with these new discoveries will change our view of the world forever.

For the Maya who inhabited what is now Belize, jade was practically part of their religion, now a goddess worshiped and respected. Do not miss the opportunity to discover the secret that keeps this coveted gem.
