The Wi-Fi is currently one of the technologies that most impact our lives, because through it we can connect to the Internet. However, lately there has been much talk about it not only for its use; but also for its possible health effects, since according to independent studies this technology would be the cause of a disease known as “ WiFi allergy “.

This disease is also called electrosensitivity, caused by prolonged exposure to electromagnetic fields or waves, generating in a person symptoms manifested mainly in the skin, such as itching or redness; and other such as fatigue, insomnia, dizziness, headaches and lack of concentration.

While these symptoms are real, the World Health Organization still doesn’t recognized it as a disease; since there have been no formal studies and independents have yielded conflicting results, which do not show the relationship between these symptoms and the exposure of people to electromagnetic fields. However, this organization suggests that the causes of this allergy may be associated with anxiety which is based on people when they are exposed to these fields.

However, this could change and maybe in the near future, wireless allergy is recognized and studied; because there are precedents in the world that indicate it, the most emblematic case happened in Sweden, the first country where electrosensitivity is recognized as a disease; in particular the case of Marine Richard, a former radio producer, who convinced a French court she was suffering from WiFi allergy and other electromagnetic waves, thereby achieving compensation.

However, while recognition is not achieved, the disease could spread to more people every day and even become the disease of the century. Therefore, when in doubt you should seek alternatives to minimize the impact of WiFi; bearing in mind the following tips:

• Keep cellular and other wireless devices you use in a considerable distance. Also, when speaking through cellphones use it as far as possible from the handset.
• Avoid having the wireless router in your room and consider placing it in a place where no one sleeps there or replace the wireless access network cables.
• Place the electronics at least 30 feet away from your bed.

In a changing world, technology will always occupy an important place in our lives, but many of us invisibly know how we are affected by it; so the recommendation is to limit the use of equipment that emit electromagnetic waves and prevent this disease.
