Western Astrology: The Western zodiac is made of twelve signs that are used for defining the personal characteristics of each individual, according with their month of birth. The twelve signs are divided into four elements: Fire for Aries, Leo and Sagittarius; Earth for Taurus, Virgo and Capricorn; Air for Gemini, Libra and Aquarius, and Water for Cancer, Scorpio and Pisces.

Chinese Zodiac: Just as popular, the Chinese zodiac is based on the Chinese calendar and the Chinese new year. It is also made of twelve signs, but the difference is that they are based on twelve animals: rat, ox, tiger, rabbit, dragon, snake, horse, goat, monkey, rooster, dog and pig. Each year is governed by a different animal, making a cycle of twelve years, which is the time Jupiter takes to go around the zodiac.

Mayan Astrology: The Mayan civilization also had their zodiac. It was comprised of 13 signs, because the Mayan year was divided into 13 moons or 28-day lunar cycles. These moons made a total of 365 days in a year, and the one day to complete the 365 days was called “The day out of time”, and it was a celebration day.

The thirteen signs are represented by the animals of their fauna: Bat, Scorpion, Deer, Owl, Peacock, Lizard, Monkey, Hawk, Jaguar, Fox, Snake, Squirrel and Turtle.

Celtic Zodiac: The Celtic culture was made up of different European peoples who lived in the Iron Age. The wise men based time on the phases of the moon, and the signs were represented by trees. Some experts say that this civilization created a protective zodiac, where the moon phases are expressed though a universe made of 21 trees.

Alchemical Symbols: This is one of the least popular zodiac. It uses the Elements Table combined with numerology. It is made up of 10 signs: 1- silver, 2- iron, 3-zinc, 4- tin, 5- lead, 6- platinum, 7- nickel, 8- gold and 10- copper. To know what your sign is, you have to add the day, month and year of your birth, then add the resulting number until  you end up with a number from 1 to 10, and that will determine the element that corresponds to your sign.
